Termite Control
Termites cause billions of dollars in damage each year. It is common knowledge that termites primarily feed on wood. However, termites also cause damage to paper, books, and board insulation and can severely harm living trees and shrubs. Two of the most popular kinds of termites found throughout Tennessee are Carpenter Ants and Carpenter Bees.
CARPENTER ANTS
Characteristics
Carpenter ants do damage to wood by hollowing it out for nesting. Shredded fragments of wood shavings are left behind.
Carpenter ants will nest in moist and dry wood but prefer moist areas around windows, plumbing, roof leaks, etc.
CARPENTER BEES
Characteristics
Carpenter bees get their common name from their habit of boring into wood to make galleries for the rearing of young.
In the late spring and early summer, homeowners often notice large black bees hovering around their homes. This is usually a sign of a carpenter bee searching for a mate and a favorable site for nest construction.
